52. Don't let them define the argument

The response to "Are you a Socialist?" can be many, including the above. I also propose a simple reminder to anyone who asks the question. The US already has many aspects of socialism within it.

From Dictionary.com:
Socialism:a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Doesn't the military fit this definition? How about education? Dept of transportation, building of roads, bridges, etc?? Etc, etc?

My father-in-law, not the sharpest tool in the shed, stated with utmost certainty that "no country was ever successful under socialism". I asked him about the military, and he had no response.

So we shouldn't let others define our argument for us. When asked the question, we should immediately, IMMEDIATELY, re-frame it. We ALREADY ARE a hybrid system of scoialism/capitalism. Democrats simply want to add a few other things, like universal healthcare, and maybe higher education. I think we'd be more likely to win some minds this way.
