However, that he did it three times, seemed surprised that he couldn't say "origins" correctly after trying three times, and switched to "beginnings" indicates something weird going on. It's one thing to invert a pair of phonemes once, but the next time you will usually say it correctly. That he was unable to do so is slightly alarming. It indicates an inability to say the word, rather than just scrambling the pronunciation.
That's why I'm saying he should get a brain scan, to make sure he hasn't had a minor stroke in one of the speech centers of the brain, or that there isn't a small tumor growing there.
It could also be a TIA (transient ischemic attack). If that's the case, he should be able to say the word "origins" sometime later today.
Speech problems can be one of the early symptoms of a stroke or lesion in the brain. That should be ruled out by a CAT scan or MRI..
