They did get really favorable coverage in the media for a week and ran around doing victory laps to influence the narrative. Usually when details trickle out in the aftermath of a big story like this their impact pales in comparison to the effect of the initial story. They are probably correct in that assumption unfortunately, but on the bright side the fake summary doesn't seem to have moved the needle much for him in the polls. They have definitely been successful in muddying the waters so that instead of shocking headlines over Trump's crimes uncovered by the vaunted Mueller investigation we are more likely to get trickles and a bunch of he said she said that dulls the impact.
