He is accustomed to dealing with people he loves in a civil manner, and I doubt very much that his family GOPhers stoop to the "Southern Strategy" of racism, bigotry, and talibornagainism that has taken over the GOP in the last 30 years. Folks who're "Eisenhower era" Republicans are foreigners in their own party. IMHO, this is the EVIL of partisanship where the misplaced "loyalty" to party trumps principles and humane stances. I eschewed "Democrats" in the days of Jim Crow and could NEVER offer my support for those bigots. It's why I couldn't bring myself support Jimmy Carter and had a very hard time coming around to the Clinton/Gore ticket. I LIVED in the south for a while during Jim Crow -- it was HORRIBLE. We're now seeing a Democratic Party that's largely to the right of the Eisenhower era GOP!
