19. Mueller did what he was commissioned to do. Nothing more.

He untangled the mess with Russian election interference and documented it in the first half of volume 1 of the Mueller report. He documented Trump appointees’ interactions with Russian agents. And in volume 2, he documented, in detail, how Trump obstructed justice at every turn. But only a handful of people read the report. Millions in the country don’t care about it; still more people cling to Trump’s spin about no collusion.

We were wrong to consider Mueller to be some kind of savior of the republic. The only thing that can start to change our country is us. With our votes. That’s it until Democrats have more of a stake in government from the local to federal levels.

Our resistance is working to an extent, but we need to grasp the levers of power again.

I’m more stressed today than usual. I am avoiding news for the most part, but it’s nearly impossible to escape how Trump is trashing the U.S. and giving cover to those authoritarians who want to see the U.S. destroyed. For all we know, he could have opened the floodgates to government computer networks so Russia can vacuum up as much information as it wants.

I feel tormented by the cover ups of migrant children’s deaths by the federal government, too. And so many other things. I’m going to put the internet down for a while.
