a 26 year old niece. She's straight, and was saying she sees absolutely no point in ever getting married, not even if she has children some day. I pointed out some of the legal benefits that come with legal marriage. She needs to talk to more people in the LGBT community to get it.

Not that everyone needs to marry, but there are very good reasons to do so, if that's what you want to do. And should be able to.
