but it's highly regulated and taxed yet robust. They're not trying to get rid of capitalism they control it to provide a strong safety net for their people—universal healthcare, free college, much less income disparity.

That is not socialism whatever your term for socialism is—democratic socialism, classic socialism—socialism is about transforming the society into one where industry is own by the people/state.

Show me a society where that has been successful. That has never worked. Sanders and his supporters need to start advocating social democracy and they might gain some traction.
