33. Everyone is wondering at Ann's thinking, I'm wondering at Republican thinking....

...Are they applauding these stories?

Which is to say, it doesn't in the least surprise me that Ann would find Mitt's actions toward her extraordinary ("My MS didn't matter to him! He still loved me! Isn't that remarkable?&quot . I mean between wealth, politics, religious fanaticism and conservative values, she's undoubtedly surrounded by entitled people who shrink from you if you're sick, abandon you if you're at all different. This is a world where spouses are undoubtedly embarrassed if their wife/husband isn't beautiful and healthy and rich. For Mitt to still snuggle up to her after her diagnosis was probably amazing to her. Heroic even.

What this says about Ann isn't much or surprising. What it says about the Republican party, however, is pretty crazy. How far into Ayn Rand, Evangelical bizarro-land has this political party gone if this story has them applauding and nodding about what an amazing guy Mitt is? Have they come to expect all their politicians to be like Newt?
