I'm a Gen-Xer and no where near as well-off as my folks were at my age. This is mostly because of my crippling student loan debt; I returned to grad school in 2001, right when the student loan rates started to skyrocket, and graduated when the economy started to tank big time. I owe $90k+ and only have a 20 hour/week municipal job with no benefits. My folks owned a home, I rent a trailer. My folks had retirement plans and savings, I'm barely surviving week-to-week.
