18. It is hard to understand and harder to explain

I believe it is a hold over from an earlier time, people are afraid in jail, groups will prey on individuals so you can't be an individual. The groups have been around forever, as the new fish you will be welcomed by your racial group and ignored by the others. When there are no problems individuals from these groups will intermingle but as soon as any tension or problems come up the divisions become apparent and they group up even if they aren't involved because trouble causes chaos and that is a time when old scores can be settled. Some people who truly aren't racists are forced into racist behavior for survival. I hate those places and one of my only fears is going back.
