(54,527 posts)Only 2 parties (due to non proportional representation) means that an extreme RW minority can drag enough non-extremists with them to game the system.
There is no way to cordon them (the radical right) off into a non-ruling smaller percentage (like the hard RW Sverigedemokraterna, SD aka Sweden Democrats are reduced to overall powerlessness here in Sweden.)
They also think the Electoral College is madness, given the power of the US 'imperial' Presidency.
Sweden is one of the most American-friendly nations in the world, but 80% plus hate Trump with a burning passion. I am US born but completely British raised, so I face up as a Brit wherever I go in the world, and in the EU our reputation (due to Brexit) is also on the serious wane.
Overall, Europeans are FAR more nuanced in terms of judging Americans on an individual basis than I have seen in the my time in the US in regards to Europeans. America is SO provincial, a nation of belly-gazers on balance (thank dog that I have been surrounded by cosmopolitan types my entire time in the States.) Living in Los Angeles certainly has helped that.
