1. Several states have sick leave laws,

most do not, and there is no federal law requiring employers provide sick leave. (Hint to our presidential candidates)

Obviously you work in a state that does not have a sick leave law and having a union to negotiate sick leave for you is pretty much a must.

Having a sick leave policy actually benefits companies in that if people don't get paid for being sick they are going to come to work sick and infect the rest of the work place.
