19. Trump has been receiving the benefit of the King David defense by evangelicals

King David was an adulterer and murderer-- actually had a woman's husband killed so he could have her. But because he stated that he loved and served God, he was considered a man of God in the bible. Just as King David served God in battle, Trump has been as well (in their minds) by appointing judges who will end abortion and non-traditional marriage. So some evangelicals compare Trump to King David-- but taking God's name in vain is direct proof to some that he does not love God, thus the loss of enthusiasm. However, Trump would have to go a lot farther to lose the majority of evangelicals-- mocking Jesus for being poor or that Trump had bigger crowds or even better saying that Trump is a better savior than Jesus might do the trick for many, but he probably won't go this far.
