"What are conservatives trying to conserve?" The answer I seemed to get (and it has held up through the most rigorous scrutiny I could give it) is:
1) Wealth for the wealthy;
2) Power for the powerful;
3) Comfort for the comfortable;
4) Poverty for the poor; and
5) Affliction for the afflicted.
