(5,179 posts)We DON'T NEED assault weapons to protect ourselves unless we have reason to think that an entire army is going to break into our homes. I'm a female senior citizen who learned to shoot revolvers and rifles over the years just for the knowledge and practice. I used to disagree about hunting animals for sport and never have myself. It's not just guns, but trapping, etc if not necessary to eat. We used to have a freezer full of game birds which mostly went to waste when a former husband belonged to a hunting preserve club. But OK, I understand that there will always be hunting enthusiasts or those who just like to shoot. Fine. But ASSAULT weapons capable of killing dozens in seconds? What warped desire to own them is this? A compromise could be to limit ownership to licensed clubs to be used only on their grounds. Access to the general populace HAS TO BE STOPPED!
