It was probably just a little nip looking for carrots.

A serious bite from a horse means you go to the hospital. Once they clamp down on something, they can't open their mouth again to turn it loose. That means they have to slide their teeth off of it. I had a friend who's horse clamped down on her shoulder like a vice grip, then slid his teeth off. Major shoulder surgery for her.
