In reply to the discussion: Kavanaugh registered web domain "confirmKavanaugh.com" in 2017 prior to Kennedy resignation! [View all]DetroitLegalBeagle
(2,510 posts)It's the same faulty logic that people use to assume a person is running for election just because electxxxxx.com or xxxx2020.com are registered.
Anyone can register a domain. And speculators exist that buy up potentially profitable names.
In this case it's likely a gop related group who already knew the shortlist for SCOTUS. How did they know the shortlist? Because both sides have one at all times. Vetting takes time. Open seats can happen abruptly. Both dems and gop want names ready to go asap. So if you know the names, it doesn't cost much to buy the domain for later use, or to prevent the other side from using it against them. Imagine if the Dems or Dem friendly group got confirmkavanaugh up and running right after he was announced. You could advertise the site and use it to discredit him.
Look up similar sites for Kethledge, Barrett, and Hardiman. All short listers. All have confirm domains registered years ago.
