Dr. King's death did kill the black movement.
Non-violent civil disobedience? That hardly even works against the police, they throw you in jail anyway and the media STILL crucifies you. It most CERTAINLY will not work against violent ruffians who will simply come back and hurt you worse later.
You have a right to defend yourself.
