(73,537 posts)to add more! Even though the House republicans appear to be a single, unified hive, there are actually some divisions within their group. These can be best described as the differences between the liars club and the rabies pack. Neither group would have picked Castor as their top gun, but instead hired him to bridge the two groups.
Castor's original goal was to show that the Democrats had reached the conclusion that Trump was guilty of sin before they heard all of the evidence. We all remember an infamous "rush to judgement" defense in the biggest criminal case of the 1990s. From a legal standpoint, this can be a valid defense tactic.
The problem is that the rabies pack wants to viciously attack each and every witness the Democrats call to testify. And Castor isn't willing to do that. We saw that yesterday, when he recognized the folly of attacking a dignified lady who was obviously telling the truth. The rabies pack had loved Trump's fucking stupid move by tweet, and were upset that Castor refused to follow his lead.
The liars club recognized that the republican party is experiencing a wee bit of trouble with women in general, and informed, educated women in particular. Castor had told them it would be bad to attack a well-informed, educated, honest woman -- one that Rudy G & Co had not only undercut, but were willing to see harmed if necessary ("See how corrupt Ukraine is?" ) -- in this setting.
Yesterday was a historic day.
