Besides, if Trump resigns, I am fairly sure it will be a spur-of-the-moment decision, with a few hours of frantically put-together damage control before it is made public.
He himself would have to be thoroughly convinced that an impeachment trial would take place, and that it would reveal evidence so damning to him that he would be in serious danger even after leaving office. If counsel that he trusts--and who knows if there even IS such a thing any more?--tells him to git while the gittin' is good, I'm sure he will do just that. Probably take Air Force One to St. Petersburg or Sochi, and then not return it as payment for deferred salary. Want it back? So sue him. They have lawyers in Russia.
