113. Interesting comment. Several years ago...

my wife and I had a chance to meet Wes Clark at a small Democratic fundraiser. A group of us discussed Iraq issues (this was about 2006 or so), and Clark summed up his viewpoint thus: “Read your Roman history. Everything that occurred with Rome, sadly, we’re headed the same way.” (Pretty close to verbatim; I’m cursed with a steel-trap memory.)

Reading your on-the-money comment caused that recollection. And, sad to say, I couldn’t agree more. There is some sort of right-wing revolution (not the best term, but it’s closest) going on in the world— the UK Brexit, the rise of nationalism in multiple European countries, etc. and the authoritarian-led chaos in this country.

I fear that times could darker. If the 2020 election is short-circuited, it’s too insane to even contemplate.
