126. I admit that I am frightened for the future.

How ironic, though, that in some places, like Hong Kong, people are in the streets taking a stand for freedoms that Americans are now throwing away.

The Trumpist followers really believe that they are the defenders of America, but have no clue what they are defending.

I have lived through some of the best years of this country. Never thought I would see it come to this.

We are in the midst of a major world change. There have been other periods of nationalism, e.g. fascism in Europe and its followers in the US. Centuries earlier there was a national identity movement that broke awsy from
European centralism, religion snd feudalism. The printing press enabled that. Now the age of electronics and social media enables a new movement.

We do not know where it is going yet or where or how it will end up. There were various twists on the path to where we have been before the present.

I believe that people, including Trumpists, are rebelling against the effects of globalism, especially the global economy. I can understand their rebellion. But they are choosing the wrong leaders, ones who will sink them deeper into the kind of world they fear.

We need to give them alternatives in leaders that unite us. We need the modern equivalent of an FDR. Strong, popular, and liberal.
