oh sure. Any automaker would be thrilled to have a huge chunk of people run out and buy a this week as a gift. But that's not expected.
Nope. The goal of those ads is to keep that car maker in mind. Making the ludicrous suggestion that you buy a car for someone makes the company notable in your mind.
And if you always have a particular company in mind, when you DO go to buy a car sometime in the next few years, they have a better shot at you starting with them.
