10. This was NOT the 737 Max that was responsible

for ptevious crashes. It was a 737-800. Totally different plane. According to WaPo, it was 3 yesrs old, bought new, and had regular maintenance check on Monday. Due to the "complexity" of the Iranian airport, Ukraine says it uses only experienced pilots and crew at this airport.

Because of the good record of this plane model and the very recent maintenance check, Zelensky does not believe the crash was caused by mechanical problems. Due to the experience of the crew, he does not believe it was human error.

WaPo gave this breakdown of passengers, released from Ukraine: 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians (9 of them were crew), 10 Swedes, 4 Afghans, 3 Britons. Iran gave a much higher number of Iranians, which suggests dual citizenship. (Canadian and Iranian?)

I was not immediately suspicious of the crash, but it is beginning to look like a military error, a missile gone astray due maybe to error on coordinates? US and several other nations have banned flights in the region for their airlines.

That's all I got from WaPo.

One speculation that falls into ct territory is that if the crash was not due to missile firing error, it might have been a deliberate strike to make it look like an Iranian missile error. Zelensky has apparently heard ct rumors because he requested that people refrain from speculation and wait for facts. The flight data recorder has been recovered.
