(11,767 posts)We have to do 2 very important things this campaign season.
The first is to not back down on the message that the GOP is corrupt and has sided with a criminal rather than the foundations of this nation: the rule of law, that no person is above the law, and that Americans stand united against foreign adversaries despite domestic differences. Republicans have defended Russia, more than they have defended the Constitution. They have allowed their own Constitutional power to be severely eroded to assist a man who does not give one squirt of piss about them and would sell all of us out for profit.
Second and equally important, we have to give voters something to vote FOR. We cannot rely on showing what scumbags Trump and the Republicans are. Most people know that. Trump supporters likely know it, but they don't care because they feel that Trump is giving them something (if only the permission to be the assholes they have always been). We all know it. The significant block of people who can but do not vote know it too. The problem with this last group is that they likely think that Democrats are okay and all, but won't do anything to really make change and improve their lives. Saying and proving that Trump and the GOP are scum, will likely not really motivate them. We need to have clear, easy to understand policies that will help them and not just keep benefiting the richest people.
The Impeachment is important and the trial is important in solidifying the first part of this equation, but we will need more to win in November.
