on a Greyhound bus going from Los Angeles to Phoenix. We were going to spend a week with my maternal grandparents. They saw us get on the bus, and the grandparents saw us get off the bus in Phoenix. In between, the bus made several stops, including a lunch stop where we bought sandwiches at the restaurant in a bus station.

That was in 1955. Nobody was worried about someone shooting guns in the bus. Nobody was worried about anyone bothering two children traveling without an adult. When we got off the bus to get lunch, the bus driver made sure we made it back on the bus.

Times have changed, apparently.
