To me, the point about "a more effective evil" refers to the despair engendered when the cops show up, but the crime continues.
Not addressing the war-crimes, nor the financial crimes, in terms of vigorous investigation and prosecution, indicates that the financial elites thusly profiting, have immunity. That is Fascistic, isn't it?
In the endeavor to perfect ourselves, this enshrines these crimes, and encourages more.
That does seem to qualify as a pretty effective evil; granted not greater.
Don't we want to be an inspiration, rather than a belligerent exporter of war and dishonest financial practices?
I'm not campaigning against Obama, we really need him, but my bumper sticker is upside-down, like the flag of distress.
