She made a nice point with her scenario, but then she tried to extend it well beyond what's fair. She could have just said that fathers who want to protect their families with guns would be much smarter to look elsewhere, but she didn't. She said that fathers don't even have a natural instinct to protect their families.

You also played into that misconception with your "everybody knows" statement. No, everybody doesn't "know" that. It's not true, and the only people who would think that are those who have difficulty recognizing the subtlety of judgment and balanced decision-making, which can be a full-time job in itself.
