(28,789 posts)I am in touch with my extended family, my Durham Democratic Women, My Durham Dems, and a bunch of other NC/Triangle progressive groups through fb. This is not true of any other platform and I have Twitter (where I am a resister 24/7) and Instagram (which I hate the interface) as well.
4 kids in my family. Parents long dead. Brother, OR, Sister, WA, Brother, CA, me, NC. Son and family in CA. Nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in AZ, OK, AR, GA, MA, WA, FL, PA, KS.
I police my timeline and block idiots liberally. I always check the source on stories even when they come from DU, and even though Twitter has made the conscientious decision to not run political ads, there are plenty of people posting stuff directly from the campaign, and a lot of bots. a LOT of bots.
On fb, I raise the consciousness of fb friends and loved ones with political posts (2 of my siblings are foxbots), but also share what I cooked today and how my little puppy is growing, as well as my grief when my old dog died. And I enjoy this same content from others.
As far as denying fb the revenue, sure I would like to do that. But let's get real, every social media platform is doing the same thing. Our data is mined to hell and back. outer space and back. it is there. Bad actors, russian bots, republicans, they're everywhere.
So no.
