Chad Mayes, California state assemblyman representing the 42nd district, became an independent in 2019.

He’s been one of the California GOP's most vocal Trump critics since 2016 and has spoken out against the 45’s rhetoric as well as the stances the Republican party has embraced.

Mayes also believes the Republican Party is wrongheaded about issues like immigration and climate change.
