I just wrote my Congressman [View all]
He is a good man who has fought for so many things that I believe in, but I think that he is failing us at this critical time.
What follows is the text of my first brief message to Congressman Blumenauer. I plan to start writing him weekly, and I would appreciate any input on how I could improve on stating my case that the people with some power (the House) need continue working post-impeachment to stop the orange lunatic in the White House.
Dear Congressman Blumenauer,
I am one of you constituents, and I appreciate your stance on many of the issues that are important to me.
However, we have entered a dangerous phase in American history. When I received your mass email this week, there was no mention of how the President of the United States of America is openly breaking the law on a daily basis. There is no issue more important than this.
In fact, your recent email about your efforts on addressing the housing crisis was infuriating. Yes, it is a very important issue, but all issues need to take a backseat while we have a criminal President backed by a corrupt Republican Senate trampling the United States Constitution.
Ignoring the problem will not make it go away. We will lose our democracy if something is not done immediately. Congress has the power to subpoena anyone they want, and it has the power to hold those who do not comply in contempt, and the Sergeant-at-Arms can arrest them. Why is this not being done? There have been several instances where Congressional subpoenas have been ignored with no consequences.
You must use the power you have as a member of the majority party of Congress. Talking about any other issue at this time has the effect of normalizing what the President is doing.
Act now, or we will not have a country left.
