If one assumes that only 1 in 3 people who might fly have a Real ID, because they're actually randomly distributed between flyers and non-flyers ... come October 1, every 3rd passenger shows up at the airport w/o the proper ID to fly.
That would be a friggin shit show.
Even half of that ... 1/6 ... would cause MASSIVE headaches. And it wouldn't just be that day, it would go on for weeks, even months, as the issuing agencies get swamped all of a sudden.
And the impact could be greater because all it takes is one in the family who can't get on the plane due to their ID.

I was told unless its expiring the same year you cannot do it, in my case early by 2 years...

less than 1/2 the country flies every year. The 1/3 with real IDs are probably in the half
