Donald Trump held a “Keep American Great” campaign rally in Las Vegas on Friday on the eve of Nevada’s hotly anticipated Democratic caucuses – the latest event in an emerging pattern that suggests one of the Trump campaign’s reelection strategies during the primary season.

The rally follows similar events in Iowa and New Hampshire on the day before Democratic nominating contests in those early-voting states. The president has used the events to stoke his base and tout his achievements while criticizing individual Democratic candidates and undermining faith in the process and the party as a whole.

He is also scheduled to hold a rally in South Carolina on the night before the state’s primaries, and another in Charlotte, North Carolina, on the eve of Super Tuesday, when voters in 14 states will head to the polls.


During Friday’s Las Vegas event, Trump once again cast doubt on the integrity of the Democrats’ elections, harping on the Iowa caucuses, in which technology issues resulted in a days-long delay in the reporting of results.

“The Democrat Party wants to run your health care, but they can’t even run a caucus in Iowa,” he said at the Feb. 10 rally.
