There was hardly anyone in the office (A lot of ppl. WFH on Friday) so it was quiet, and he sits in my corral (4 cubes to a corral) and she sits in the one next to us, so I wasn't exactly eavesdropping. I wasn't really paying attention to their conversation until I heard him say, "The Coronavirus is really just the flu. It has the same symptoms and it hasn't really killed that many people, so I just think the media is over-reacting."
She agreed with him and they were kind of just laughing over the whole thing and thought it was completely blown out of proportion. It surprised me coming from her especially since she has a 2-year-old toddler and is about 4 or 5 months pregnant. I would think she would take it a little more seriously.
I don't know their political affiliation and they didn't really get into it - I couldn't really hear some of the other things they were saying because there were some other people having a conversation nearby so I couldn't catch everything, but these are very well educated people so I was surprised that they were so, well, what I would consider ignorant about the topic.
I am certainly not panicking, or even very worried at this stage, but I trust that doctors, health professionals and scientists probably know a lot more about this than any of us and I don't see any reason to dismiss their concerns.
It just really surprised me. I think it's going to be a tough sell convincing many people that they need to take precautions over the next few months. Trump and his team of idiots are not helping things at all.
