(33,364 posts)in the Caribbean on Monday. I'm here for two weeks and had this trip planned since last May. My son and his partner arrive Saturday from Raleigh to help me celebrate my birthday. They are a bit worried since the first coronavirus case in NC was confirmed this week in a guy who visited the nursing home in Seattle that had confirmed cases and flew back through Raleigh.
I have a master's degree in public health and have been following this closely. Shared some information with them and advised them of travel practices--especially handwashing--to minimize chance of picking up any bugs: colds, flu, or coronavirus. I think they are coming, but won't really know until Saturday. The kicker is that my son's partner has a fear of flying, so that confounds the whole decision making process. I've written to my son about fear being a motivator, and making a risk/reward decision.
My next travel trip--already booked--is by train in late May to Charleston for the Spoleto Festival. Hopefully, that will happen.
My other son and his partner are leaving tomorrow for a trip to the Yucatan to visit Mayan ruins. As far as I know, they are going ahead with that trip.
