(23,218 posts)The comment about installing hand sanitizers on highways on Feb. 27th (While speaking at Metro Hospital) was complete criticism on my part. That was 2 weeks ago. Much more could've been done in 2 week's time from then until now. Staff that I know that sat in on his preparedness plan were in shock, as was I when I was told of it. Has he not been following what's coming out of other countries as we all have? At that point, 2 weeks ago, he should've had a much better plan in place. We'll have to agree to disagree on that issue.
As for the Ohio COVID-19 website, when it first went live, it was only showing updates twice a week at certain times listed on the site, which I thought was pathetic. When frightened family, friends and fellow citizens have seen images of what's become of China, Italy and Iran specifically, they want at the very least one update daily, not twice weekly.
In regard to the call center, it went live on Friday, March 6th. People were trying to call with busy signals or being on hold for hours. They called the news stations here, who tried and got the same response. They're open for calls 7 days a week and according to local media, frightened people still can't get through. They need more staff.
DeWine called a State of Emergency on March 9th so the call center difficulties had absolutely nothing to do with schools closing or nursing home visits at that specific time. There were no influx of calls on March 6th due to this, plus the call center was open all weekend. I do believe this call center will be extremely overwhelmed now, though.
I do believe that we're on the same page with most issues however; I think we only disagree on how long it's taken DeWine to implement changes. It's taken the entire US far too long, which will likely only result in more death.
My kids are physicians and I also have a PA and several nurses in the family who saw this coming quite some time ago. Perhaps you have family and friends on the front lines, as well. They tell me their colleagues have felt the same, but no one paid attention. (The idiot in charge made matters worse with the "flu" talk) Now they all tell me that containment is out of the question. They're hoping this comes in waves and not in a spike because it would decimate our healthcare system, not to mention many would perish as healthcare workers would have to "choose" who had a better chance of surviving and having to make the decision of who gets the last vent.
I do however have one issue that Melanie Amato, (Press Secretary, Ohio Department of Health) was telling people in regard to paper money:
"Some callers ask about safety precautions, even wondering whether its safe to handle paper money and coins. (It is, said Amato.) "
China was burning their cash and you're hearing a lot online and via the media (can't offer names of epidemiologists or virologists offering commentary at the moment) that did say COVID-19 did survive on paper money for X amount of time. There does still seem to be a lot of misinformation going around.
