(11,005 posts)My Dad ran his own business. He had a service station. He was the best mechanic you could ever want to know. And he employed many young men over the years, usually of high school age.
After he retired, my dad took up golf. And he spent as much time on the golf course as he had at his business. (which means a lot.) LOL.
Not only did he play golf, he became a marshall on the golf course that was adjacent to where he lived.
One day while he was 'working' on the golf course, a man in his thirties approached him. And he asked my dad if he was Bob (last name will not be announced for privacy reasons.) And my dad said yes, I am Bob.
This young man introduced himself to my father and said, 'you probably won't remember me, but I worked for you many years ago. And you taught me every life skill I will ever know. I wouldn't be the man I am today if I hadn't worked for you. Thank you for everything.' It turns out this man was now a firefighter. I think that's one of the most proud moments of my Dad's life. (I am getting choked up as I am telling this story.)
Believe me, when you instill good things in people, no matter their age, it sticks.
