79. As an obviously caring parent and person,

I'd ask you to cut the use of "retard" and "tard" out of your vocabulary. It's used with derision and it hurts people who do have cognitive challenges clinically known as "mental retardation."

There's a wonderful website & movement: "The R word. Spread the word to end the word."

"The R-word is the word 'retard(ed)'. Why does it hurt? The R-word hurts because it is exclusive. It’s offensive. It’s derogatory. The R-word is hate speech. See why supporters think the R-Word is hurtful when used in jokes or as part of everyday speech. " More at the website linked here.

Just as you so beautifully stand up for your son, I stand up for the many patients I've had who have intellectual challenges and ask that you and everyone cuts out that hurtful "r-word," with "tard" as equally offensive as the whole word when it's used in a derogatory manner.

Bless you and your son! I hope that the sickos in this country (primarily Republican) don't ever get the chance to, once again, make it impossible for those of us with preexisting conditions and serious illnesses to get the medical treatment we need.
