First, it's helping his campaign directly simply because it's free. He reaches more people and doesn't have to pay for it.

Second, "no such thing as bad press," and Donnie certainly capitalizes on that. By November, when the virus is mostly under control (hopefully), he'll be able to claim that he was busy "doing stuff" and some people will think oh I guess he was part of the solution.
