The book uses the conceit of a baseball strategy game played by the protagonist to ask questions about reality and morality, life and death. It is a strange trick to think of the characters in the game as pretend and the main character, Henry Waugh, as real since he too is a character in a simulacrum.

Gteat book when I read it in the '70's after reading a section in Playboy (remember when Playboy was a source of good literature?).
