with their spouces, are both canadian citizens now. The people who will replace health care aides or gardeners or cooks or farmworkers in the US are not buying a small townhouse as they don't have their spouces here and they will not make enough money as the migrant temporary workers they will be. Immigrants make up 1/4 of nursing home workers and all. That is a ton of houses not being bought. I knew two cook brothers who bought a house and lived in it with their other three brothers while they made and saved money in canada to have nest eggs to go home to Lebanon with one day. As this coronavirus has shown, they are our most important workers. They will be replaced with temporary workers. Wages will go down. Low to mid real estate will go down. And they don't vote. But will pay some taxes while they are here. The moment their contract is up they are sent back to their original country.

This will be permanent if Stephen Miller has his way. And it looks like he gets his way often. It is about stopping people from voting democratic. It is about power. I'm looking at the long term here if this becomes permanent. Of course in the short term people are not going to buy houses or cars because of the shut downs. But so too stopping immigration will put a chill on the housing market too.
