Complicated thing. The area he and his spouse live in is dominated by Militia types. His source for Protein is members of this loosely knit group who are Farmers as well as Main Street Merchants and Butcher Shops.

Met some of this so called Americans on many a occasion through the last two decades. Thankfully it was always a brief encounter,and yes this Militia thing survives on ignorance and Conspiracies.
