Could the capitol police claim that they "feel threatened" and therefore justified in shooting first, "standing their ground", with no requirement to back down if confronted? How about if it wasn't the police that confronted these guys, but a state legislator, or a visitor to the capitol?
How about if the police or a private citizen saw them on the sidewalk a block from the capitol and "felt threatened"?
Believe me that I have no sympathy for these protestors with their black guns and paramilitary costumes. I feel that they are trying to intimidate people, so what if someone claims to feel intimidated/threatened and shoots first.
I am further confused when I think about "concealed carry" and how does that fit in. Can someone enter the state capitol with a gun under their coat? Even with a permit?
I've been of the mind that there shouldn't be such a thing as "concealed carry", if you carry a gun anywhere, I should have the right to know that you might be a danger to me.
Is it just part of our mythology, or was it true that in the Wild West, if you rode into town you had to check your sidearm with the sheriff until you left and that a concealed gun was a sign of a coward?
I've gone too far, haven't I, and confused the issue. Just shoot them like MineralMan suggested.
