(14,763 posts)At least enough to realize they've been duped. It is still hard to accept, even after 4 years, that there were enough dumb, gullible, brainwashed, hate-filled, racist, reality-TV addicts, or whatever the reason was they voted for Trump, for him to win the EC. And now? Only a handful have seen the light. Still dumbfounded
When I see polls, like a recent one posted on here, how Trump is still ahead in some battleground states, or that a California seat just recently switched back to Republican, it is baffling.
Is it that the Fairness Doctrine was abandoned? is it a result of years, decades, of dishonest RW propaganda, spearheaded by the granddaddy of them all, Rush Limbaugh?
Sometimes I also think that "liberal" Hollywood helped create a false reality in America that favours the extreme right. I'm now in my sixties, and have seen a lot of Hollywood movies and shows. As the years have gone on there is much more violence, shooting, but I think more influential is the bent towards the maverick/hero The idea that the government is evil and up to no good all the time. And this hero is going to sweep in and uncover all the crimes and disrupt the business as usual goings on. All kinds of anti-heros in the history of film. Right up to present with The Joker. A brilliant movie I enjoyed it immensely, Joaquin Phoenix was brilliant. But at times I wonder at the cumulative affect of demonizing authority, while glorifying those that skirt the rules, usually involving guns....even back to Eastwood in Dirty Harry. Or Bronson in Death Wish. Anyways, going off on a tangent. If I was a young student I'd do a thesis on this.
