15. The economy can't stay closed when the US has a poor social system

The basic reality is that you have to open the country back up because without universal income or other very strong supportive social programs in place, millions of Americans are going to go into absolute poverty and that’s going to cause a bigger crises than the pandemic.

Republicans are still trying to cut off food stamps and they are willing to block any bill that will make a continued lockdown livable. This is the dystopian nightmare that we are in.
