The Daily Dread - Tracking the spread, 5/22/20 [View all]

Well look who's back (sort of...)? MSNBC unfroze its virus graphics (sort of...) that you see on the right side of the screen. And they roll - Countries with Most Cases, States with Most Cases, the color-keyed map of the US, and Total Confirmed Cases/Total Deaths. I've always gone with the fourth one - the confirmed cases and deaths both globally and domestically. It seemed like the best comparison to get a good overall look at the COVID state of affairs on Planet Earth. Seems to me it's helpful to know the world figures as well as our own here in the U.S. - so we know where we are in this, and we can watch how fast the spread is, and how our rate of increase here in America compares to the worldwide increase.
So yesterday, all day (that I saw before I gave up and switched to CNN), the graphics were frozen on the States with Most Cases. Which doesn't do me any good, as far as the metrics I've been tracking since I started tracking them. I like to try to be consistent. I even called MSNBC, left a comment, and emailed all the Maddow Blog people about it. Now, as of this morning, the graphics are frozen again. But at least they're frozen on the graphic that gives you the worldwide data as well as U.S. data. Thank heavens for small favors. If they have to be frozen on one, THAT'S the one for me.
At 8:23am
Confirmed cases worldwide - 5,118,928
Deaths worldwide - 333,750
Confirmed cases US - 1,592,934
Deaths US - 95,518
At 8:32am - the confirmed cases numbers are already moving. Fortunately, the mortality rate hasn't risen (at least not yet).
Confirmed cases worldwide - 5,119,074
Deaths worldwide - 333,750
Confirmed cases US - 1,593,080
Deaths US - 95,518
At 8:39am - the confirmed cases numbers are still moving. But not the deaths. Maybe that indicates a bit of good news?
Confirmed cases worldwide - 5,119,397
Deaths worldwide - 333,750
Confirmed cases US - 1,593,403
Deaths US - 95,518
