(5,776 posts)This has happened a number of times at Tesla superchargers, though it also happens at other chargers. We refer to a gas car in an EV slot as "Icing" from ICE (internal combustion engine).
We also have trucks "roll coal" on us, which is were they have a switch in their truck that sprays diesel into the exhaust, causing billows of black smoke. So, the truck will swoop in front of you, "roll coal" and then block you when you try to change lanes or pass. I have only had it happen once (in my Leaf), but it happens enough in the EV community, that it is not exactly uncommon. It happens more with the Prius, the Leaf and any model Tesla, as these cars have a distinct look on the highway. Yes, it is illegal, and a few people have been fined. It has also started declining with Teslas, as word gets out about the 8 cameras on board used for autopilot can now actively record if the owner chooses. This captures license plates and illegal acts.
We also get our share of aggressive drivers tailgating and brake-checking us. I had one "semi-hostile" encounter with a fellow while charging who wanted to know why I would drive a "super expensive pussy golf cart", so I offered his a test ride. After a 15 minute ride (never exceeding the speed limit, but getting to it scorchingly fast, I pointed out that my car had likely cost $20K less than his truck new, but mine only cost 3¢ a mile for fuel (this was when diesel was around $3 in my area). I won't say I had a convert, but at least he was far friendlier at the end of the ride.
All that said, I must now also make a point that I do not approve, endorse, or in any way agree of Elon Musk's behavior, pronouncements, or pandering of the last few months, and find his actions very upsetting and divisive. Between his actions and Michael Moore's poorly researched and damaging Planet of the Humans, it has been a bad time for green energy and EVs.
