We could have had an excellent president. Instead, with Republican shenanigans like voter suppression and perhaps actual cheating (Michigan and Wisconsin?), Russian interference, and plain old misogyny, we have a completely incompetent, law-breaking, racist, ignorant, wannabe dictator.

I have always believed that the US is a flawed country but that with the right people in charge we could fix those flaws. But every time we seem to make progress, as with the election of our first black president, we take twenty steps back to something worse. Racism is one of our biggest challenges, and we cannot “fix” the country until we address it. We are like two sets of rowers, with one group rowing the boat in one direction and the second group in the opposite direction. I don’t know what it will take to break that stalemate, but my optimism that it will happen is a bit low just now.
