No doubt the violence surrounding the 1968 Democratic National Convention protest activity in Chicago pushed a lot of voters toward the "law and order" candidate. In the general election, Nixon emphasized "law and order", positioning himself as the champion of what he called the "silent majority".

Would Trump and his cult foment violence so he can run as the "law and order" candidate like Nixon? Of course.
