(3,596 posts)Unfortunately I think the trajectory would be for the GOP to move even further to the right. They will claim the reason Robme didn't win was because he wasn't far enough to the right, not that he failed to move back toward the center to attract the "independent" voter.
I listened to a commentator on a Swedish Podcast program note that hard economic times with high unemployment, economic uncertainty, etc. tends to drive the extremes on both ends of the political spectrum - i.e. communists and fascists. In Germany in the 1930's, the fascists won. We are seeing the progression of ultra conservative parties in Europe now. The Tea Party is a manifestation of the same phenomenon in this country.
I hope we don't have to fight another war against fascism - domestically and/or abroad.
